02ツーリングはBMW2002シリーズのヴァリエーションモデルの1つとして誕生した。BMW2000touringは、1971年BMW1600touringのボディに4ドアセダンBMW2000のエンジンを積んだモデルであり、スペックはBMW2002と同じであったが、ツーリングボディの重量は重く1030kgとなる。同じくBMW2000tiｉ、BMW2002tiiとエンジンを搭載したBMW2000tii touringも登場する。スペックはBMW2002ｔｉｉと同じだが、同じように重量が１０５０ｋｇとなる。ギア・ボックスは、オプションで5速も用意された。ギアのレシオはBMW2002、BMW2002tiiと同じである。（ネコ本には「A/Tはない。」とあるが、プロダクションを見るとModell71の前期型BMW2000touringにはATが設定されている。）1973年に他の02シリーズ同様マイナーチェンジ（フェイス・アップ）を受け、後期型に移行する。また、BMW2002touring、BMW2002touringと名前を改める。また、後期型マスクでリアは丸テールである。ツーリングの丸テールライトは、セダンの丸テールより径がやや大きい。余談だが、ある本には3ドアなのだから、「BMW2003」と名付けては・・・とあるが、面白い案だ。
